Articles and Reports added to the Foods Matter website in May 2007
  • NEW COMPLEMENTARY THERAPISTS' DIRECTORY

Our new complementary therapies practitioner directory is taking slightly longer to compile than originally anticipated as we are including information and links to the professional body/bodies for each therapy.
We hope for a launch date in early May.

    ARTICLES, REPORTS AND RECIPES

    Allergy and total allergy

  • Formulae for adult consumption
Following on from Sarah Merson’s article on infant formulae, Sarah and two Foods Matter subscribers, Isobel Bracewell and John Scott (both of whom live on infant formulae) look at how these foods can help adults with severe or total food intolerance.

  • The hidden menace of lupin flour
Dr Harry Morrow Brown takes a look at this dangerous food which can cause death and should be more widely understood, especially by peanut allergics.

Dairy allergy/intolerance & Infant and Child Illnesses

  • Soya Infant Formulae
Parents may chose a soya formula for ethical or cultural reasons - or because their baby cannot be breast fed and cannot tolerate the standard cow’s milk formulae. But are they safe?
Following on from her investigations last month into hydrolysed and elemental cow’s milk formulae, Sarah Merson now checks out the soya versions.

    Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
  • MCS - an overview
At the age of 11 Matthew Hogg was diagnosed with CFS/ME and his illness eventually included allergies, multiple chemical sensitivity, irritable bowel syndrome/gut dysbiosis/candida,
and various mental and emotional problems including depression, anxiety and insomnia.
He has now created a website - www.ei-resource.org - which includes a feast of other articles, research reports and useful information.

New Recipes

  • Fish soup
Wheat, gluten, corn, dairy, nightshade & egg free; can be soya free
A very easy, but impressive soup
which could be served as a dish on its own or as a starter.

  • Pasta and curly kale salad with pumpkin seeds
Dairy, corn, nightshade & egg free; can be wheat & gluten free

Curly kale is delicious but you do need to be very careful to remove all its stems which are very tough. Wecombined it with a spelt pasta.

  • Aubergine and smoked haddock burgers with red pepper salad
Wheat, gluten, dairy, corn, soya & egg free
An unusual way of using aubergines...

  • Rhubarb and ginger cake
Wheat, gluten, corn & soya free; can be dairy free

This cake is particularly delicious served warm as a dessert - you can pour the lovely juice over it or drink it as a dessert wine! But, if you do not finish it as a dessert, it still tastes great with a cup of tea the next day.
