Diagnosis and management of food allergy and intolerance – including complementary therapies

The explosion of allergy across the developed world over the last 50 years remains a puzzle to medical and scientific experts. Many of the possible causes are explored in our 'causes' section, The only really accurate diagnostic tool for food allergy and intolerance is what is known as 'exclusion and challenge' – removing the allergen from your diet or environment, seeing if you get better and then re-introducing it and seeing if you get worse! However, much effort is being put into finding less onerous diagnostic tools – see our 'testing' section .

Meanwhile, what most allergy and intolerance sufferers want to know is how to manage their condition. For a very wide range of options see out two management sections below – and if you want to investigate alternative and complementary approaches, check into our CAM section.
