Harissa Cottage Pie

Corn, egg, gluten, lactose, milk, nut, peanut, soya & wheat free

Ingredients

  • 5 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 6 tsp harissa paste
  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 can tomatoes
  • 1 can chick peas
  • 1 large bag of spinach, wilted and squeezed
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 kg potatoes, peeled
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C / Gas 6.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a wide pan and gently soften the onion.
  3. Add the garlic, cumin, fennel and harissa and cook for a minute or two.
  4. Add the mince and cook until it is browned.
  5. Pour in the tomatoes and drained chick peas.
  6. Stir through the spinach.
  7. Pour into an oven proof dish.
  8. Chop the potatoes into large chunks and cook until soft in a large saucepan of boiling salted water.
  9. Drain the potatoes and return to the pan to mash along with the rest of the olive oil and plenty of salt and pepper.
  10. Spoon the mash on top of the mince and then sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  11. Cook for about 20 minutes, until everything is hot and the top is starting to brwon.
