Anapen 500

Anapen® is a registered trademark for a commonly used autoinjector of epinephrine (adrenaline), used to reverse anaphylactic shock. The Anapen contains a prefilled needle syringe combination which delivers adrenaline intramuscularly.

Up until now the syringes have come in two sizes: the Anapen 150 delivery 0.15 ml of 1 in 1000 Parts (0.15 mg) recommended for children weighing 15 to 30 kg and the Anapen 300 delivering 0.3 ml of 1 in 1000 Parts (0.3 mg) recommended for people weighing 30 to 60 KG. However, this has meant that heavier allergics might need to use two pens to deliver sufficient epinephrine to counteract the reaction for their body weight.

However Anapen have now had the Anapen 500 (delivery 0.5 ml of 1 in 1000 Parts (0.5 mg) and recommended for those weighing more than 60 KG) approved by the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and it is now (October 2009) commercially available.
