Victory for autism

The National Autistic Society is celebrating a crucial success. In response to MP Cheryl Gillan's Autism Bill, the Government announced new measures that could help to address the shocking lack of autism services which leaves people affected by the condition
feeling isolated and ignored.

Proposals will hold local authorities legally accountable if they do not provide appropriate support for autistic people and should tackle the chronic lack of support for adults with autism by placing legal duties on local authorities to address the current barriers to support. Ground level services could also be dramatically improved as there should be regional and local leadership to deliver the strategy.
