First steps to stopping installation of smart meters in UK

For UK Readers:

If your energy company is insisting that they are going to install a smart meter in your property, Stop Smart Meters suggests that you keep your objections simple but firm and go for one or all of the following:

- I am lawfully entitled to refuse a Smart Meter. I am exercising that right by denying consent for one to be installed.

- Charles Hendry MP is on record confirming Smart Meters are voluntary. This is reflected in Hansard records from November 2011.

- Edward Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change, is on record confirming Smart Meters are voluntary. This is reflected on the DECC website.

'We could', says Mike Mitcham of Stop Smart Meters, 'get into how they have been shown to cause people health problems elsewhere, but my view would be keep it simple - and if the energy firms won't take no for an answer, to keep repeating the above points until they get bored and go away.
If anyone has any problems, they can email us at info@stopsmartmeters.org.uk - I am afraid that we don't have a hotline as I wouldn't have time to man one....'
