Probiotics prevent development of allergies

A double-blind placebo-controlled study carried out by the College of Medicine at Swansea University has concentrated on 454 mother-infant pairs taking a daily dose of probiotics from 36 weeks pregnancy and for the first six months of their babies’ lives. The results at two years of age show that those babies on the probiotics had a significantly reduced incidence of allergy to pollen, cat dander, house dust mite, cow’s milk and egg, and the risk of developing eczema was also reduced by 60%.
