Olmesartan, a drug used for lowering blood pressure that does not have many side effects, has been found to induce coeliac disease-like symptoms in 22 patients.
A study published on line in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings led by Dr Joseph A Murray has shown how 22 patients on olmesartan presented at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., US with coeliac-like symptoms but who tested negative for coeliac disease, experienced a complete recovery after stopping taking the drug.
