Dear ....

European Parliament Written Declaration

I am writing to seek your support to the attached Written Declaration concerning the recognition of multiple chemical sensitivity and electro-hypersensitivity in the International Statistical classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, (ICS)-11, the new code of diseases due to be released in 2015. Please support this declaration before 14th June 2012.

Electrosensitivity, sometimes referred to an an intolerance to electromagnetic radiation, is becoming a major world-wide health problem as it is caused by modern technologies using wireless communication systems – Wi-fi, mobile phones, DECT phones (home cordless phones), PDTs (portable data terminals used in restaurants etc to take credit card payments), low energy light bulbs and even baby monitors.

In the same way that not all people display an adverse reactions to nuts or pollen, so not all people display an adverse reaction to electromagnetic fields. It all depends on the degree of exposure and, of course, there are more wireless systems being installed all the time – the next being the roll out of smart meters.

At present UK medical authorities do not recognise electro-hypersensitivity as a medical condition. As a result there is no central record of the condition as no information is being collected or collated. Those suffering from the condition are regarded as suffering from depression and and are simply given anti depressants.

Some other countries take a far more enlightened approach – Sweden, for example, regards electro-hypersensitivity as being a handicap.Tthe purpose of the Written Declaration is to raise the profile of the condition and to get it recognised. On 20th April 71 MEPs had signed the Written Declaration but far more are needed by the closing date of June 14th in order for it to be taken to the next level.

As my local MEP I urge you to sign the declaration. If you need more information about the condition please refer to the registered charity www.esk-uk.info.

Yours sincerely,

Your name, address and phone number.
