Higher intakes of calcium and vitamin D may protect against colon cancer, the fastest growing UK form of cancer. Suggests a study by a US team. After four years following over 800 subjects who had recently had a colon cancer removed, the team found that those who too calcium supplements – provided they also had a satisfactory vitamin D level – were far less likely to develop further colon cancers.
